Tithe Your Assets Everyone should consider giving a tithe of their assets soon after becoming a believer in Jesus Christ.
We are not saved by works we do, but by the grace of God, through our faith in Jesus Christ. However, when you receive eternal life you become a new person inwardly, with new desires.
If you do not love Jesus and desire to give to Him -- you should probably question whether you are really born again.
Worship Tithing is really just a token of our devotion, and worship of God -- but God's Word teaches tithing is important.
GENESIS 14:18-20 NKJ
18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.
19 And he blessed him and said: "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;
20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of all.GENESIS 28:22 NKJ
22 ". . . of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You."LEVITICUS 27:32-33 NKJ
32 `And concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the Lord.
33 `He shall not inquire whether it is good or bad, nor shall he exchange it; and if he exchanges it at all, then both it and the one exchanged for it shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.' "2 CHRONICLES 31:4-5 NKJ
4 Moreover he commanded the people who dwelt in Jerusalem to contribute support for the priests and the Levites, that they might devote themselves to the Law of the Lord.
5 As soon as the commandment was circulated, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of grain and wine, oil and honey, and of all the produce of the field; and they brought in abundantly the tithe of everything.Figuring the amount to give need not be difficult. Just determine your total net worth, then give cash, or property, equal to one-tenth that amount. Give your tithe to the Lord through the ministries that brought the Gospel to you.
Boost Evangelism What a great boost it would be to evangelism if tithing was taught and practiced widely. If all converts gave a tithe of the value of their assets -- evangelists would multiply, and would have plenty to continue their work reaching others.
GALATIANS 6:6 NKJ
6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.ROMANS 15:27 NKJ
27 . . . For if the Gentiles have been partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in material things.1 CORINTHIANS 9:7,11,14 NKJ
7 Who ever goes to war at his own expense?. . . .
11 If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things?
14 Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.Supporting ministers by people's giving is not just a good idea -- it is God's idea. God does not ask anyone to work for Him without paying them for their work.
Objections Some may object that believers should tithe only on their income. But, where do assets come from except from previous income?
Also, if someone receives Christ in their retirement years when they may not have any significant income -- but are living off their accumulated assets -- should they not worship God with a tithe and let God bless their finances?
Although tithing your assets is not a commandment, we can see the pattern in the Bible. We will not condemn you for not giving a tithe -- but it is for your own good. Your spiritual growth will be greatly affected by the decision you make.
Tithing is not designed to harm you -- but to bless you. God never asks you to do anything that is not good for you.
MALACHI 3:10 NKJ
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now in this," says the Lord of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.Give Your All LUKE 14:33 RSV
33 So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. To follow Jesus requires trusting Him. As long as you are grasping onto money -- are you really trusting Him?
How can you acknowledge Jesus as your Lord, and not let Him be Lord of your assets?
God wants all of you -- all your assets -- all your love -- not just ten percent. (But, in return God gives you His all.)
Giving ten percent is just an acceptable token of your complete dedication to God -- pledging that you are totally His. So, He can call on you to give your all, anytime.
You are trusting Jesus with your eternal destiny; why not trust Him with your assets -- giving ten percent of them now -- to spread His Message that saved you?
